Recollections of a Combat Defense Squadron “Ramp Rat”

“Camping on the Atlantic Coast near Huelva”

Camping was always one of our favorite low cost ways to spend a three day break.  After we moved to Seville, in May of 1964, we made many trips to the beaches along the coast, south of Huelva.  Today, part of this area is the Parque Nacional de Doñanza.  A1C Marston photos 1965.

Along the way, we stopped in the pueblo de Algodonales, one of the white cities of Andalucía.

Thanks, and a tip of the hat, to Sr. Enrique Leal for his assistance identifying these villages, and providing the 1996 photo.

We stopped again in Moguer, for refreshments and a haircut.

The barber remains unidentified, in spite of the best efforts of Sr. Leal.

Manually operated hair clippers require more skill than electric.

Today, this peaceful square has been modified beyond recognition.

The next photos are from another trip to the same beach.

This time our maid, Merchi, and her sister joined us.

Notice how the 20mm ammo can is now painted red and white.  In the Zaragoza camping photos it was still olive drab.

In the photo of Doug under the shelter you can see the botijo we always carried in the VW.

The fishing boats had the one lung atlas imperial engines; they made a very distinctive sound, like a John Deere.
